Brian Walls is seen throughout the novel as a adventurous child and even a protector of his siblings at times. Brian is Jeannette's closest friend. They are together in most of the novel and when Brian moves to New York Jeannette helps him. He was the only one to come to her graduation showing his love and loyalty towards his sister. He actually allows his father to live with him for a while even knowing he did not agree with him throughout his life. Brian's character is one of resilience and safety. Although he did not have much power in his childhood he grows to be a respected police officer.
